The history of the Penny Bar & Grill starts in 1998 when what was then called The Steel Penny established a live music venue for alternative rock bands in San Angelo. Several bands established themselves here, including Blue October and Vallejo. Even the Los Lonely Boys have taken the stage here.
A restaurant was added in 2010 and the venue was renamed the Penny Pub and Grill. A couple years later, it was renamed The Penny Tap House because of its variety of beer on tap. The music continued, albeit the music selection expanded to incorporate local music talent. The venue dipped into Texas music, country and rock, with bands as diverse as Del Castillo and Red Dirt phenom Mike McClure performing on our stage.
Today, The Penny Bar & Grill serves up a hearty and affordable lunch and dinner along with nightly entertainment. We have the coldest beer on tap and a top shelf bar. Built around the College Hills neighborhood, during our 25-year history we have have been the place where friends meet, the food is great, the music is fresh, and business deals are made.
Our live music incorporates the best in Texas including alternative rock, Texas country, and local bands. Our music continues to evolve to also include popular Norteño and Tejano occasionally.
Stop by The Penny, 2412 College Hills Blvd. for lunch or dinner or to meet friends after work. We are your neighborhood bar and grill.
